understanding graphic file formats
understanding format, choice and image, compressionphotoshop files are not web friendly. convert it to a jpeg or gif png (web friendly file)
all files on a computer are packaged differently.
the format well be decided by where it came from like Photoshop , adobe illustrator or a camera
these philes photo or video can be reduced by using image compression formats.
Graphic image formats fall under 2 categories of compression lossy and lossless
with lossy image data is lost or reduced for smaller file sizes but can cause poor image quality can result in compression artifact
lossless well retain the images data for higher quality and larger files
by compressing images the photo well slowly start to loose its quality.
tif jpg and gif are the three most common file formats.
png is very common on the web..
each format has its advantages and disadvantages
png and gif both have a transparency channel.
TIF (tagged image format)
commonly used for desktop publishing print. photo and graphic design
Tif is a lossless file format meaning it well retain the image data to retain maximum photo quality.
Jpeg stands for joint photographers expert group
it was created for digital photography and works best for photo content.
can reduce an image to 10:1 without showing significant compression artifacts
stricty for dat photos
GIF stands for graphics interchange format
best for images that have flat color or even tone such as a cartoon.
reduces image size by index ing color from 3 channels to 1
not proper for printing
less frames the better
theres two types of pixels contiguous and non contiguous
contiguous are photos with blended color pixels where a non contiguous are nice flat color pics
